Barry & Batya Segal's New Music Project - "Day 7" - now released!

The full MP3 with 11 songs was released on Aug. 18, 2013. I bought my copy off Amazon. 

There is a lot of electric guitar, with pronounced drum instrumentation. Along with the extra vocal production that has gone into this, their latest CD is a master piece. (I have all of their CDs.) 

Several upbeat, Israeli Middle Eastern style songs of course. Batya wrote the songs, and sings them beautifully. I actually didn't hear much of Barry's voice, but my wife did. Overall, very nice!

My favorite, after the first listen, is "Hashkifa" (Look Down From Your Holy Place.)

With the title being "Day 7", it will be very enjoyable listening to it on Shabbat (Sabbath) especially.

And... it is a good way to learn Hebrew! (All the songs are in part or all in Hebrew, with English too.)

Ted Pearce is a singer/songwriter/guitarist who has been a worship leader since coming to faith while driving south on a stormy Dallas night in January 1990. He has a testimony of salvation by grace through faith with a sound that borrows heavily from artists like Joel Chernoff & Lamb, Paul Wilbur & Israel's Hope, Kol Simcha, Marty Goetz, Karen Davis, Jonathan Settel, Barry & Batya Segal, Liberated Wailing Wall and others who began creating a unique song of Jewish praise to Yeshua in America during the 1970s.

A 'Prince'ly Legacy

CBN.com – It was 1941. The world was at war. In a British army barracks this Cambridge- educated philosopher had a life-changing encounter with God. He simply opened the Bible and read it. He came to the conclusion that Jesus was alive and the Bible was an up-to-date, relevant book. That conviction changed his life forever. His name was Derek Prince.

"I was so ignorant I didn't know you had to go to church to get saved. I mean, I didn't have any spiritual language at all," Derek notes.

Derek was a son of British privilege. Born in India, he was whisked away to boarding school and later Eton.

"I was reading my school reports just two days ago from Eton, I mean years back," says Derek, "and one of my teachers said, 'He had a rather sour outlook on life.'"

He furthered his education at Cambridge and later held a fellowship in ancient and modern philosophy. Then, while defending his majesty's England, he cracked open the Bible.

"I was a professional philosopher before I became a Christian, and philosophers all have problems in their minds," he explains. " I thought, I need something to protect my mind. Then I read in Ephesians 6 'the helmet of salvation,' and being logical by background and by character, I said, 'That's it! The answer for depression is hope.' So I said, 'I'm going to put on the helmet of salvation.' My unit was almost immediately sent out to the Middle East, and I spent the next three years in the desert of the Middle East.

So began the spiritual journey of internationally known Bible scholar Derek Prince.

"In my country people do not know what Coca-Cola is or who the president of the United States is, but they know Derek Prince," says one Siberian national.

On September 24, 2003, Derek died peacefully in his sleep and went home to be with the Father. At age 88, he’d spent nearly six decades in ministry. He had finished his race on the eve of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, or the Feast of Trumpets. His body was buried in Israel, his adopted homeland for more than 20 years. In his last interview with The 700 Club, Derek talked about his deep love for the Jewish people.

"Without the Jewish people, we'd have no patriarchs, no prophets, no apostles, no Bible, and no Savior. How much salvation would we have without that? So we all owe an infinite debt to the Jewish people," he says.

Earlier this month, Derek was memorialized in Charlotte, North Carolina, home of his North American ministry. Family, friends, and co-laborers in Christ celebrated his life and ministry to the nations.

"The name of Derek Prince became a synonym around the world for integrity and for courage, courage to speak on Bible topics that most preachers were afraid to think about, let alone teach," says John Hagee at Derek's memorial service.

"Friends, I am hear to tell you that the same Derek Prince that I lived with at home in Jerusalem was the same man you saw in the pulpit," Barry Segal told the congregation at Derek's memorial service. "He was without guile, and he was without hypocrisy."

"A prolific writer, Derek authored more than 40 books, including his hallmark work, Shaping History Through Prayer and Fasting. He recounts the great move of God he witnessed while teaching in Kenya during the late 1950s and early 1960s.

"Prayer and fasting," says Derek, "definitely made an impact for one generation on that nation of Kenya."

Today, Derek's teachings are broadcast by radio around the globe and translated into Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Malagasy, Mongolian, Russian, Samoan, Spanish, and Tongan.

Grandson Derek Selby recounts what his grandfather told him about his legacy: "It is my desire, and I believe the Lord's desire, that this ministry, Derek Prince Ministries, would continue the work God started through me until Jesus returns."

But Perhaps Derek Prince's teachings, his books, or his ministry to the body of Christ are not his greatest legacy. Instead, it is the extraordinary example of his family life.

"I was married to Lydia for 30 years and to Ruth for 20. And each of them was a happy and successful marriage," says Derek. "The most painful thing in my life has been the death of Lydia, and even more, the death of Ruth. With Lydia, I was a part of a big family, but Ruth and I were, basically, two people on our own. We had that big family, but I have never had such a close, personal relationship with anyone in my life as I had with Ruth, and losing her -- I won't say losing her; the Holy Spirit rebuked me by saying, 'You haven't lost her. She has gone ahead. She will be waiting for you.' But I am just so sorry for people who aren't ready for the issue of death because if it doesn't come to me, it is going to come to my wife. Death is part of life. That is the way it is because of our sin. Thank God Jesus has taken the sting out of death. We are going to have to die, but Paul says that we don't have to mourn like others because we have a glorious expectation."

Derek's passion for fatherhood is also a living legacy to the body of Christ and an example for other leaders to emulate. While on his tour of duty in Palestine, grandson Derek Selby explains, "He came to a children's home that a lot of soldiers would frequent for prayer meetings. That home was run by a Danish woman named Lydia Christinson, who had already been there for 15 years on her own in Jerusalem. The day that Lydia and Derek got married, he immediately became the father of eight adopted daughters. One is British, one is Palestinian Arab, and six of them are Jewish girls."

When Israel declared statehood in 1948, the region erupted in war. Derek Prince and his multi-racial family were forced to flee the country because of threats against their lives.

"In the middle of the night, Derek lead his wife and eight daughters into the streets with nowhere to go and left everything they had in the home, which wasn't much to begin with, to protect his family and get them to safety," says Derek Selby. "That eventually led to them coming back to England, where Derek's preaching ministry really began."

One of Derek Prince's adopted children, Anna Selby, remembers her father affectionately.

"I don't recall when he came to the home in Ramullah," Anna says. "I just remember that he was always there for me, and he has always been there as my daddy. He was a great dad, big supporter. I shall miss him dearly."

Derek and Lydia bonded with their ninth adopted child in Kenya. Her name was Jessica.

"They went to my parents and said, "We heard that you take in children. They are much older now' They said, 'We no longer do that. We are missionaries. We no longer take in children.' They got up to leave, and as they went to the door, my hand went out to my father to say, 'What are you going to do with me?'" says Jessica Sorenson. "What you saw in the pulpit is what you saw at home. He was the same man. He wasn't two different people. What I remember about my father is that he was a loving man. I knew that I was loved by my father, and I think he loved me when others didn't love me. That has always touched me. He loved me and he instilled faith."

In today’s business and ministry world, women have entered the work force in record numbers. Many have been forced to, often simply in order to support the children that, as single mothers, they are now solely caring for. (Another book could be written on this alone, and “What Happened To The Men!”)

With the Lord having created as many women as men, it should not be a major dilemma or concern in our businesses or ministries to employ women that carry the gifts, the heart, and the ability to perform the office jobs that need to be performed, so necessary on business, church and ministry staffs. After all, they certainly are available and willing!

There are certain positions that a leader and an administrator needs to fill within his team, that are more suited to having women in place. Phone receptionists, word and data processors, bookkeepers, and sales clerks so often are best found in the female segment of society. But I have learned that these are not the only responsible, traditional positions that they perform well in.

Women directors and supervisors can effectively steer those in her charge, with skill, attitude, and favor. And when they do, they need to be paid with the same benefits that a man would be, if having that same authority and responsibility.

While employed as the Director of Operations and Finance at Derek Prince Ministries, we had two women supervisors, Jeanette Alongi, Communications Supervisor, and Gina Stasko, Customer Service Supervisor. When they spoke at our weekly mangers team meetings, I carried full respect for their input, wisdom, and knowledge on the job, and for those who were in their departments, whether men or women.

Both Jeanette (who had more than 24 years with the ministry at the time of her retirement) and Gina (it may be  now almost 30 years, at the time of this writing in 2013) on many occasions gave thought provoking opinions, great suggestions and encouraging support that enabled the ministry to advance forward.

Another woman that I held high regard for, having much godly character, and whom I admired with deep respect and honor, was the Finance Supervisor and personal secretary of Derek Prince, Dorothy Schulte. It was Dorothy who spent the time training me, when I first came on staff with Derek Prince Ministries in 1987 to replace her, as she was coming to the end of her faithful years of dedicated service, before her retirement year in 1988.

Dorothy would hold me to strict accounting practices, to the very penny when balancing the books, and would not let me “cut corners” to save time, at any time. Her commitment and loyalty to her work certainly helped give the ministry the credibility that it has long held, in part to her supervision, and which I strove to carry on in my tenure. She was indeed the “woman for the job.”

As I looked to fill positions, both due to expansion and turnover, I regularly interviewed men, and women, whom I would then select to be the one for that needed addition. And as it was in my authority, I worked to pay them the same for the work performed, whether they were a man or a woman performing that work. In my eyes, as I looked to the Lord, each are created equally, and are to be treated equally. 

If the shoe fits, let the woman wear it!

As a result of having several leadership positions with businesses and ministries, in the administrator and higher management roles, I have gained the respect of other leaders, in other businesses and ministries, who have come to value my opinion and input. Thus, when it was asked of me who I would recommend for a leading ministry position for a work located in Jerusalem, it did not take me long to put forward the name of Hannele Pardain, who at the time of this writing continues to be the Christian Friends of Israel USA Director (CFI-USA). Hannele has led this ministry very much so with her diligence, long hours and heart for the people and land of Israel. I wholeheartedly recommended her for this vital leadership position that was needed to be filled at that time.

Women in leadership can have a more nurturing heart than can sometimes be typically found in men. (And sometimes not!) They may not be as quick to reprimand someone in their department, realizing more of the factors involved in the decision having to be made. I have found that they are more long suffering, when it comes to choosing the course that would take more patience, than the one a man in that position would take. Often it turns out to be the right course, as more details are later known in the given situation. It must be the “mother instinct” that always believes that her child is good!

On several occasions I had been told that I am too “black and white” in my memo and

e-mail communications. One of the best administrative assistants that I have ever had, Charlotte, during my time with DPM, would often encourage me to use “more honey” in my expressions, both in writing memos and speaking to staff. 

I tended to want to get to the point, tell it like it is (as I see it) and get the matter settled. Her important input was to let me know that this can still be done, but with a little less “pepper” and “more honey” in my approach. The results proved that this was an accurate observation in my leading. Again, the woman’s touch and discernment can be most beneficial.

When I left Vision for Israel in June of 2010, to start Love For His People, I had already recommended to Barry and Batya Segal, Co-Founders, that Deborah Shokes take my place. She had worked with me at both All Nations Church/Mahesh Chavda Ministries and Derek Prince Ministries for several years preceeding.

When I hired her in 2003 for the Donor Support head position at VFI, I had already known of her faithful dedication, love for the tasks, skills in performing all her duties, and the great experience in getting the job done. She served faithfully then, and still does today!

May the Lord continue to give us more women who have the time, the heart, the skills, and the attitude to take their place in His work. As in the natural, so may it also be in the spiritual realm, as the Church realizes that more and more in these last days.

This poster measures 36" x 24" and hangs above my home office desk for Love For His People, Inc. 

I bought it around 1995 at the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship (John & Carol Arnott), when on a ministry trip with Mahesh Chavda (All Nations Church/Mahesh Chavda Ministries.)

The other photos that I have placed around the border are as follows:

1. Peter & Joy Wyns - top left hand corner, pastors of Antioch International Church in Fort Mill, SC where Laurie and I are members, and Beit Tikvah pastors

2. Merkebu Yeman and I (bottom right hand corner) near Jerusalem. Merku administrated the Medical Department at the Joseph Storehouse (Vision for Israel) near Jerusalem, founded by Barry & Batya Segal.

3. The photo of the Jewish family in the bottom middle was taken by me in 2009 when I was participating in the Jerusalem March (October Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot), with our Vision for Israel tour group. I love the little girl's expression - if you can see it. So sweet.)

4. The one picture to the right of the Jewish family photo was taken by me at the Western Wall, with an IDF soldier going to pray at the Kotel (Wall).One of my favorite places in the Jewish capital city of Jerusalem.

5. The postcard of the Jerusalem Old City Golden (Eastern) Gate, where Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah) will return through in triumph (His 2nd coming), was bought by me on one of my 10 trips to Israel. I probably mailed it from Israel to my Charlotte home, so I would have the stamped postmark!

6. The photo of the wall mural on the left side (middle) was painted on the All Nations Church location, which we called "The Barn" in Charlotte, NC by Jerome Lucas, in 1995. 

It reads "By Thy favor, O Lord, build the walls of Jerusalem." 

The land on which The Barn was built on was sold in 1995, and the structure was torn down after only one year. I am glad I have this photo left (among others.) We held many all night prayer and praise "Watch of The Lord" Friday night meetings there (from 10 pm to 6 pm)!

7. The bottom left hand corner postcard is of the Israel national flag and the shofar.

I bought this watch online in 2004. I didn't want to wear it all the "time" (pun intended), but have decided to now. (When it "runs out of time", I will get a new one!)

This great piece of artwork, stitched embroidery on cloth, was given to me by a true friend in 1997, when I was the Administrator at All Nations Church in Charlotte, NC. It also hangs above my home office desk of Love For His People, Inc. (This desk IS the office desk of the ministry. I work at home for the ministry, in addition to my full time accounting job in uptown Charlotte.)

And finally, I want to share with you the story of my Star of David ring.

In 2004, while on a tour with Christian Friends of Israel (US), as a board member for the past 14 years at that time, I again visited the shop of my good friend Avraham Saidan, whom I had met a few years earlier. His son David ran the Judaica gift shop on Ben Yehuda Street in Jerusalem. 

As I was looking at gifts to buy for family and friends, I noticed all the neat rings on one wall's shelf. I thought that would be a nice addition to my home collection of Israeli Jewish memorabilia. So I found this one, which fit on my finger.

When I got home, a few weeks later, I was looking at it, where I had placed it on my bedroom dresser. The Lord said to put it on. 

I said, "What?" 

He said, "Put it on." 

I responded, "That would be like marrying Israel. I am already married, and really don't need a second wife." In the good sense of the word. I knew about Abraham and others in the Bible.)

He responded, "From now on you ARE married to Israel and the Jewish people."

And I said, "Yes Lord."

And so I have worn my Star of David ring ever since. I am committed to Yeshua's purposes for Israel and His people. His commitment is also mine.

Having known Barry and Batya since 1980, and also after working with them for five years as Director in their USA Charlotte, NC office, I most heartedly support their humanitarian work, Messianic music, and commitment to serve the Jews and Arabs in Israel.

Barry also has a great TV program called Roots & Reflections. I love it! Barry travels about the land, having you meet people, learn a Hebrew word, hear one of their songs, and experience the land of Israel as no one else can.

He even shares his food with you (which surely makes Batya happy, because then he doesn't eat it all!)
